WTF?! You don't normally expect super-compact PCs to pack cutting-edge specs. Chinese company Linglong is bucking that trend by not only stuffing the Ryzen 7 8840U processor in a smartphone-sized package, but also making it functional enough to feature its very own keyboard.
This tiny PC is 15 cm (5.9 inches) wide and 10 cm (3.9 inches) tall, making it just a smidge taller and wider than the average smartphone. If that's not enough, you can cut the height even more by folding it from the center. It's thicker than most handsets and weighs 800 grams, but when the presenter pulled out the actual device from his back pocket during the unveiling, it resembled a chunky wallet.
The AMD chip under the hood was released this year and is no slouch, featuring 8 cores and 16 threads. In fact, it's used in some gaming handhelds like the OneXPlayer 2 Pro. Assisting the unit is up to a beastly 32GB RAM and 1TB of superfast NVMe SSD storage on the 2230 form factor drive.
Despite the diminutive form, Linglong didn't skimp on the battery. This folding keyboard conceals a hefty 60Wh cell rated for up to 10 hours of basic office use or 6 hours of video playback. However, you can expect closer to 4 hours under heavy loads like gaming.
If you're wondering about what sort of display you can hook this device up to, the company recommends you use it with an AR/VR headset. That kind of setup brings to mind the Spacetop G1 laptop which ditched the display for AR glasses in the top half. However, Linglong's offering provides more flexibility since the marketing material showed the device being connected to a TV, tablet, and even a phone.
Connectivity is well covered too, with a USB-A port, USB4, and USB 3.2 Type-C, in addition to the WiFi 6 and Bluetooth. About the only thing lacking so far is any definitive news of a release date or pricing after the initial 200-unit beta run.
The top-spec with Ryzen 8840U, 32GB RAM, and 1TB SSD will set buyers back by between $410 and $500 if or when it hits retail channels, but don't expect it to make it out of China.
